In technology world, we often hear about many rivalries going on between different companies to attract users to their side as much as they can & one such rivalry is between Apple’s App Store & Google’s Play Store (Android Market). This rivalry is not new with each of them not missing any chance of taking even the slightest advantage of getting ahead of each other.
We all know that Google’s Play Store is way ahead of Apple’s App Store at least in terms of total apps downloaded but as we all also know that Apple is not one of those competitors who accepts defeats so easily. In its way of decreasing the gap, Apple has announced that it’s App Store has crossed 45 billion downloads till now at a stunning rate of 800 apps being downloaded per second.
Apple also announced that it has paid about $9 billion to developers so far with a rate of about $1 billion per quarter. Apple has also increased its App Store’s reach to 155 countries which means that now Apple has access to about 90% of people using iOS devices.
If we compare it with Google’s Play Store, it has reached at a mark of 25 billion downloads till September 2012. According to a report of Canalys, Android Apps have a share of 51% in total mobile app downloads from all the four major App Stores- Google’s Play Store, Apple’s App Store, Blackberry World and Windows Phone Store but the report also shows that most revenue is generated by Apple’s App Store with a 74% share.
